In Antarctica, the institute's staff constantly monitors changes in the natural environment at five year-round stations: Novolazarevskaya, Bellingshausen, Mirny, Progress and Vostok.

Vostok station was founded on December 16, 1957. It is the only operating inland Russian Antarctic station.
