Severny polyus (North pole) ice-resistant platform
SPECIAL PURPOSE VESSEL WITH A RESEARCH CENTER FUNCTIONALITY FOR THE ARCTIC NATURAL ENVIRONMENT YEAR-ROUND RESEARCH
The platform has become a key link in the spatially distributed observatory, supplementing data of coastal stations with the Central Arctic hydrometeorological information.
In May 2018, the contract for the design and construction of an ice-resistant platform of the 00903 project was signed by Roshydromet and Admiralty Shipyards, JSC. The model tests took place at the ice pool of the AARI. The vessel was launched on December 18, 2020. On Polar Explorer Day, May 21, 2022, the platform set out for sea trials.
The vessel sea trials control stage was completed in July 2022, and in August the platform was transferred to AARI. In September 2022, the platform's first scientific voyage began.
