The northernmost Russian Antarctic station. It is located on the Fildes Peninsula in the southwestern part of the subantarctic King George Island [Waterloo].
The station was built during the 13th Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1968 under Alexei Treshnikov leadership. For the first winter, 12 polar explorers remained at the station, headed by Arnold Budretsky.

RESEARCH
During the summer season, the station carries out research in glaciology, geomorphology, paleogeography, hydrobiology, limnology, geobotany, zoology, ornithology, geodesy and cartography, microbiology, soil science, permafrost science and ecology. Since 1980, Bellingshausen has been receiving satellite data on the state of the sea ice cover.
The station's year-round scientific program includes observations and research in meteorology and oceanology.
